As the new academic year begins, the Dukakis Center of Anatolia American University is pleased to invite you in its first public event of the season, organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the Vafopouleio Cultural Center.
On Tuesday, 29 September 2026, at 19:00, at the Central Municipal Library of Thessaloniki Gonda Van Steen, prominent Hellenist and Koraes Chair at King's College London will talk about her multiyear research project on Greek-born children who were sent for adoption abroad, especially in the USA, the Netherlands, and Sweden, between the late 1940s and the mid-1970s, as well as the attitude of the Greek state towards the adoptees later on, including the process of (re)gaining Greek citizenship.
The lecture will be followed by short commentaries by Aigli Brouskou Associate Professor Emerita, American College of Thessaloniki, and an expert on Greek-born adoptees from Thessaloniki, as well as by Mina Filiopoulou, lawyer specializing on family law and children's rights, and President of the Vafopouleio Cultural Center. I will have the honor of moderating the event. A reception will follow afterwards.
The event is open to the public, but registration is required following the link in the poster below, or in the comments below.
We will be delighted to have many of you with us on this important occassion
